Bunqer is a creative duo consisting of Taan Tabak (writer/dramaturg) and Niels van Heijningen (mime artist/actor). In their work, they explore the encounter between language and movement. Within their projects, they search for linguistic, poetic stories about identity, desire and physical freedom, combined with physical exploration. From this core, they explore how words and movement can reinforce, challenge or question each other.
The duo focuses on themes around identity and the desire for fluidity, often viewed from a queer perspective with a fascination for the animalistic and mythical. Bunqer attaches great importance to spatiality and the musical-vocal aspect of their performances, and regularly collaborates with composers and in atypical theatre locations. These elements enhance the dramaturgy and invite the audience to a sensory experience that goes beyond a traditional narrative structure.
Bunqer strives to inspire a wide audience to live a lively, uninhibited and attentive life. With their work, they invite us to experience movement and language as powerful carriers of emotion and insight, and to question social conventions and our own beliefs. The duo has presented work at Paradiso, Boslab Theatre Festival, Come Together, Amsterdam Fringe Festival, Nexus Festival, Podium Bloos, Theater Kikker, Studio/K and Film by the Sea.
